Organo-mineral fertiliser is a formulated fertiliser that brings organic material and mineral nutrients together in one product. The organic fraction supplies an organic matrix; the mineral fraction supplies declared plant nutrients. The composition, nutrient forms, release behaviour and intended use vary by formulation. Therefore, “organo-mineral” describes a category, not a guarantee of any particular field result.
The category
Organo-mineral fertilisers sit between wholly organic inputs and conventional mineral fertilisers. Research commonly describes them as formulations combining organic feedstocks or soil-improving materials with mineral nutrients. They can be produced as granules, pellets or liquids, and may be uncoated or controlled release.
The term is also written as organo mineral fertiliser, organomineral fertiliser and, in US English, organo-mineral fertilizer. On this site we use the hyphenated Australian spelling: organo-mineral fertiliser.

How it works
Two organo-mineral fertilisers can have very different nutrient analyses, organic sources, physical forms and release profiles. A useful evaluation starts with the product specification and finishes with performance in the intended growing system.
Check total nutrient percentages, the forms in which those nutrients are present, and whether the analysis matches the crop and production stage.
Ask what the organic material is, how it is processed, how consistency is controlled and which characteristics are measured batch to batch.
Granule or pellet size, durability, bulk density, media distribution and dose uniformity can matter as much as headline analysis, particularly in small containers.
For controlled-release products, request the test conditions, comparison product, release curve and evidence from a production system relevant to your crop.
Use the current label, technical data, safety documentation and agronomic advice. In Queensland, fertiliser labelling requirements include nutrient content and the form in which nutrients are present.
Product evaluation
A credible supplier should be able to separate category evidence from evidence about its own formulation.
Fenrow's approach: Fenrow combines recovered Australian organic material and mineral nutrients in a single controlled-release pellet. Product performance is assessed through a fixed side-by-side trial protocol. Category research is useful context, but it is not presented as proof of a Fenrow-specific outcome.
Australian use
No single formulation is right for every crop, soil, substrate or production format. Suitability depends on nutrient demand, soil or media properties, irrigation, container volume, placement, climate, release mechanism and the supplier's evidence.
Fenrow is developing its current range around production nursery pots and containers, tube stock and cells of at least 40 mm. These are the formats being assessed through its trial pathway.
Very small plug cells constrain pellet dosing and distribution. In those formats, a pelletised organo-mineral fertiliser may sit alongside fertigation rather than replace it.
Common questions
No. An organo-mineral fertiliser contains both an organic fraction and mineral nutrients. It should not be described as certified for organic production unless the specific product has current certification covering that use.
No. Controlled release is a separate product characteristic. Some organo-mineral fertilisers are coated or otherwise engineered to control nutrient release; others are not.
It can supply mineral N, P and K, but whether it replaces all or part of an existing program depends on its analysis, application rate, nutrient availability, crop demand and trial evidence.
No category label guarantees a result. Published research discusses potential soil and nutrient-management benefits, but outcomes vary with formulation, organic substrate, soil, crop and management. Product-specific claims require product-specific evidence.
